Poker Face, 2020
acrylic on canvas
Framed: 94cm x 94cm
Poker Face takes inspiration from the native Hibiscus (hibiscus divaricatus) which is found growing along the Capricorn Coast region. The large, bright flowers have dainty petals, while the plant is hardy and slightly prickly.
Born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, Veronika Zeil is a self-taught artist and has explored art through a variety of media. Her drawings, paintings, mosaics, sculptures, short stories and poetry explore our psyhcological relationship to surroundings, the unstable interface of nature and culture, human frailty, and search for place. The works journey from the seemingly mundane to a discovery of the lyrical in our everyday life. In 2011, Veronika was admitted to Monash University on merit and graduated in 2013 with a Masters of Visual Art.
