About Drawn Together.
Drawn Together, a solo exhibition of new work by Erin Dunne, offers an autobiographical account of contemporary life in rural and regional Queensland from a queer perspective. The work’s presentation seeks to embody the fluidity and porousness of boundaries that demarcate queer bodies, experiences and geographies. Reflecting on moments of intimacy, vulnerability, playfulness and the ordinary, the work simultaneously reveals and inscribes the presence of queer bodies, practices and communities in these locations.
Erin Dunne is an artist and arts educator based in Central Queensland (Darumbal country) represented by GALA Gallery. Her work attempts to capture and distil a poetic and narrative sense of what it means to call regional Central Queensland home by examining everyday experiences related to place through an autobiographical lens.
Recent achievements include being selected as an illustrator for the State Library of Queensland’s newly commissioned series of children’s books, First Five Forever: Stories for Little Queenslanders . Dunne won the 2019 Bayton Award for Central Queensland artists (valued at $17,000) and the 2018 Queensland Regional Art Awards Holding Redlich Art For Life Award (valued at $10,000).
Her 2019 major solo exhibition, House , was developed in collaboration with Rockhampton Art Gallery, utilising audience-centric exhibition design principles to adapt and expand on works produced in her studio practice to become immersive, accessible and engaging installations that invited interaction and contribution from audiences of all ages and abilities.
Dunne has exhibited nationally through selection for prizes including the Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award, Marie Ellis Drawing Award, and the Lyn McCrea Drawing Prize. Her work has been curated into exhibitions such as Utopia Tropicae: Spirit of The North at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery in 2018, and has been acquired by institutions such as Rockhampton Art Gallery, Queensland College of Art Print Collection, Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum Collection and Central Queensland University Collection.
Dunne completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at Queensland College of Art in 2012 and a Postgraduate Diploma of Education at Queensland University of Technology in 2014.
